Uhm... if that's all, then the only thing I can say is reinstall the game.

This is happening to a guild mate of mine. I'll try and be more specific. He has played GW on the same comp since Prophecies release, but just recently the following is occuring:
1. He can log into the character select screen.
2. He can select a character and it starts loading.
3. While it's loading he can hear the background noise (water, birds, etc)
4. We can actually see his toon in the guild hall.
5. But it never leaves the load screen.
He has reinstalled the game. Like I said, this is very recent. Any help, or advice would be awesome. He could contact Anet, but at this point we believe they'd say it's on his end (and rightfully so).

I don't think anyone can help...
I'm going to try getting more RAM. If that doesn't work then I'll delete some of the crap off my PC.

Well you should provide your system specs, OS, what service pack you are running (if you're on Windows, assuming you are).
Then we can try and go from there?

Ok, have they updated their graphics card drivers lately?
Cause, I used to have this problem on my old computer, specs as follows;
*AMD Athlon 3200+
*1 gig of ram
* Windows XP SP2
*GeForce Fx5500 (It's card at the time of the problem)
It was simply the video card's problem, because when I switched a 6600 all the problems with freezing went away. It could have just been a driver issue back then - but I didn't care to update that, I simply just put in a new card and went.

I would like to know where I would find that out, I have never needed to find my PC specs before.
My PC used to run WOW fine.

You can go to ''Start > Run > type in ''DxDiag'' without quotes, and then the ''System'' tab will display main information like your Processor, operating system how much memory you have etc.
The ''Display'' tab will tell you what video card you have, you can write it down on here or post screen shots if you desire. Also on the right hand of the screen when you're in the display tab, it will tell you which driver you have, what version, what date, etc, that can also be useful information too.
Also, you could try re-downloading your Gw.dat file located in the directory of where it was installed, you just simply delete it, and then launch the game again and it will begin re-building a new .dat file. Mind you that this is re-downloading every file in the game, it can take a long time. It may help because the .dat could have corrupted elements and/or be bloated, and it can cause issues such as these.
De-fragging your hard drive/and or the Gw.dat file wouldn't hurt either.

Then you got other problems lol. Time to go buy more. But finish listing the rest of your specs. And open the side of your case and tell us if you have 1 stick of ram or more in it too please.

Speaking of opening the side of the case, dusting out any dust that has accumulated over time would not hurt, if there is any.

Ouch - that's 256MB RAM after the system has stolen a bit. The rest of your system specifications would be nice, but I have a feeling that it's not going to be pretty...

Use the Crucial scanner - http://crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx
It will scan your system, tell you what memory you have installed and what you can install. Buy your memory from there - Crucial rocks.

Agreed though, I tend to like Crucial, seems solid.
